Meditation

As the site where the Buddha sat in meditation and attained enlightenment Bodh Gaya has a reputation as an auspicious place to practice meditation. In fact tradition maintains that not only Shakyamuni Gautama Buddha, but all previous and future Buddhas will attain enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. So its clearly from a traditonal Buddhist viewpoint a great place to practice meditation.

In the light of this belief people have been coming to Bodh Gaya to practice meditation for many years. In the 20th century the tradition of lay people coming to Bodh Gaya to practice meditation has also developed and there are now many meditation retreats held each year in Bodh Gaya.

On this page you will find links to some of the major retreats held each year in Bodh Gaya. Such as the retreat at the Thai Temple which Christopher Titmuss and others have been teaching on for over 25 years now.
